I love the story of this card because he's so fearsome in the art, but what he does in the game is [run away]...This is a great example of combining the character [lore] with a fun card, Ryan Miller Kim adds that Rexs card also features Woody and Buzz glimmers in the background, protected by their fearsome Bodyguard
My final advice would be: use the basic frame structure as a constraint (limitation breeds creativity, Mark Rosewater says), and if needed work from there to create new details that are really meaningful for the game, and be more careful not to create more noise
The one restrictive part of this card is its high mana cost, even though it can be heavily reduced by playing high-power creatures
Weve seen spell lands be powerful with MDFCs, and this works in a similar way
Scoured Barrens gains you some life, while Malakir Rebirth and Sejiri Shelter are nice lands that can double as spells
