Being a 1/1 does not really do much in terms of pressure and so you are best off holding Safekeeper in hand until you have spare mana or near the end of your curve
Its not often Wizards of the Coast, developers of Magic: The Gathering will slot in a permanent new mechanic into their formats
(They also cant be evolved the same turn they are played to your bench.) The exception are GX and EX Pokmon, which may be played straight away and do not require evolution
And plenty of elf decks across formats try this card out every once in a while
