Mana-ging Flood Aside from mana curve, the other way to end up playing card for card with your midrange opponents is literally just drawing the same number of cards as they do
If a creature that dies leaves the graveyard before Meathook Massacre II's second or third ability (as appropriate) resolves, that creature won't return to the battlefield whether or not life was paid
In the middle of the game, I managed to equip it with two Loxodon Warhammers (lifelink stacked at the time) and through many shenanigans, including doubling its power eight times, I attacked with my Chameleon Colossus for 27,648 damage and gained 55,296 life
The pro- Magic player from Australia was armed with a mono-white deck that had a sole copy of Sleight of Mind but forgot to register his Adarkar Wastes, his only source of blue mana to cast the card
This is partly why discard decks are so strong against Ruby/Amethyst right now
