Because this card is so cool, players definitely deserve easier access to it, and its also iconic enough to appear in the Archive
Having to pay life and mana for the extra card is a little rough but you don't have to add anything after the mill, making it a recurrable mill engine for reanimator decks, descent decks, self mill etc
It's yet another Shift card, with a cost of five ink
More than anything else, this issue is what led to the overall dislike people have of this set

Once again, though, there are more Demons to choose from that would have been better financial additions to the Secret Lair
