In exchange for being much easier to cast at 3 mana, you receive a dream counter for each opponent you have instead of a fixed amount, and you have to tap to remove the counters for mana, slowing this iteration down considerably
The life cost is a downside but you start with 40 life in Commander, and if youre playing against infinite combos, then life is less relevant anyway
This kind of a deck can probably overwhelm faster or more powerful combo decks by flipping over lots of disruption like Duress, Inquisition of Kozilek, or Thoughtseize
These flip cards acted very much like transforming double-faced cards behave today, but back in the early 2000's Wizards of the Coast was still hesitant to print anything other than the standard Magic back on the backside of a card
You can decide to put it into your hand if you'd rather not play it or if it has a comes-into-play effect that requires it to be played from your hand
