Think about the typical journey of a Magic player: they start off playing casually, at home on the kitchen table with friends, and slowly work up the ranks of competitive play, going to FNMs, Game Days, and perhaps eventually Grands Prix and so forth
It performs well as the large finishing creature in an aggro deck that wants to get in quickly and attack, but because it creates treasure it also has a key role to play in controlling decks that can make use of the extra mana it provides
The good news is that Magic cards dont have that problem, at least yet
