The best of my theories is that germs are naturally occurring while gunpowder is an invented item, and Magic is more amenable to singular figures like mages manipulating the environment than "leveling weapons" like firearms (see Vengeances quote about a bullet making all sizes equal)
Also, Goldspan Dragon is a great pick if the deck is based not on Dragons, but on tokens and artifacts in general, with Treasures being great options for sacrificing permanents or putting lots of artifacts onto the battlefield at once
if you want a good board wipe i cant imagine a better one then Out of Time, a little mean since it just makes everyones commander vanish forever until someone gets rid of out of it
